Fall 2024: Short Story Masterclass (online)

5 sessions on Zoom: Tuesdays, 6-8 pm EST, October 15 - November 12, 2024

You’ve been writing short stories, yet publication has remained elusive or rare. This is a workshop for learning how to take your story craft to the next level through revision. Writers often struggle with revision because it’s a challenge to disentangle oneself from a draft and look at it freshly. Emerging writers also sometimes don’t know what to look for, and how to look. This series will teach you practical approaches to revision and help you learn to be a better editor of your own work.

This small class allows each participant to workshop one, and possibly two, short stories. You’ll receive extensive feedback on your story from me, covering both substantive and sentence-level areas. You’ll also receive responses from your peers. Supportive and lively discussions will build your confidence and enthusiasm for making your story the best it can be, and giving it a better chance at publication.

To join: participants should have at least one completed short story of up to 4,000 words to bring to the workshop. The longer you have worked on the story, the better.

Maximum six participants.

Cost: $390

One scholarship place is available at a much-reduced rate. Please speak to me about this option.
